Director Rebecca Lowe debuts her unique vision of Thornton Wilder’s The Long Christmas Dinner for VLT audiences —“I felt that by giving the Bayard family traditional Christmas songs to sing together, it becomes a special little jewel that audiences can cherish as part of their own holiday experience.”
A curated song book borrows old favorites, as well as a few obscure carols, chosen to embellish the fates visited upon 90-years of Bayard family members, not unlike many American families in our history. Audience members will be encouraged to join the cast in song.
Presented without intermission, Thornton Wilder’s The Long Christmas Dinner is a mystical one act play that covers 90 years of Bayard Family Christmas dinners, from 1865-1955, magically intertwined around the same table. As generations appear, have children, wither and depart, only the audience appreciates what changes and what remains the same.
The cast features: Elizabeth Grieve as Lucia, Steve Mandell as Roderick (Lucia’s husband), Mary Keating as Mother Bayard (Roderick’s mother), Tom Laird as Cousin Brandon, Allen Hambrick as Charles (Lucia & Roderick’s son), Sarah Nessin as Genevieve (Lucia & Roderick’s daughter), Christina Scott as Leonora Banning (Charles’ wife), Sharon Wetterling as Ermengarde, Steven Shipman as Samuel (Leonora & Charles’ son, Lucia’s twin), Phoebe Gildea as Lucia (Leonora & Charles’ daughter, Samuel’s twin), Thomas Weaver as Roderick (Leonora & Charles’ youngest son), Marcee Long as Nurse
