The Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale: Where Environmental Science meets Environmental Ethics

October 19 • 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Dr. Nelson is a rare individual: a philosopher and scientist. His early interest was in Biology but he became interested in its broader aspects and finished B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. all in Philosophy. With a specialty in environmental ethics, it is no surprise that he has waded into traditional scientific studies to gain insights. He has been involved in the Isle Royale Wolf-Moose Project in Lake Superior since 2005, the longest continuous study of a predator-prey system in the world. He offers an example of efforts to understand something about the human relationship with nature that lies at the fusions of academic disciplines. ENHS knows that Nelson knows what he’s talking about and that he can say it well. We are in for an inspiring evening.
