Tristan Weitkamp is a Portland, Oregon native who was raised on the classic music of Fats Waller, Count Basie, Louis Jordan, The Pointer Sisters, Duke Ellington and more. He fell in love with playing the saxophone while at High School in Tigard, Oregon and stayed close to home to study jazz at Portland State University. Immediately following his studies at PSU he moved to Cape Town, South Africa and became immersed in the music culture of the coastal town. The flavor of jazz unique to Cape Town has had a lasting effect on his playing and he continues to seek opportunities to return and connect with his peers in South Africa.
Presented by The Jazz Station.
