Twin Rivers Classic Dressage Competition
August 18 • 7:30 am - 6:00 pm
One event on August 19, 2018 at 7:30am
The equestrian sport of dressage evolved from a means for prepping horses and riders for war by the Greeks into essentially a kind of horse ballet in the modern era. An even better analogy is figure skating as horse and rider pairs are judged for how well they execute their fancy-prancing movements. Dressage became an Olympic sport in 1912, and Stephen Colbert brought it to national attention during the 2012 election as he spoofed it upon learning presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his wife Ann Romney owned an Olympic steed. You might spot a young Olympic hopeful of the future when the Twin Rivers Chapter of Oregon Dressage Society invites the public to come watch horses and riders in Lane County compete from the beginning levels to the most difficult — the grand prix. Show organizers say the “highlight of the show will be the musical freestyle classes where riders choreograph their rides to music.” The Twin Rivers Classic Dressage competition is being hosted by Silver Tail Farm, 33331 Howe Lane, Creswell. The competition runs 7:30 am to 6 pm Saturday and 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Sunday. Spectators are welcome and admission is FREE. — Camilla Mortensen
