Youth Symphony Season Finale
May 24 • 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm• $5 - $10
The Eugene-Springfield Youth Symphony presents its final concert of the season! The orchestra is led by Dr. David Jacobs, UO’s Director of Orchestral Studies, whose breadth of musical knowledge and sensitive conducting style brings out the best in our region’s finest youth musicians. The Youth Symphony boasts 62 exceptional players, who perform with remarkable musicality and maturity. From Mendelssohn’s fabulous Hebrides Overture to an exciting Nehlybel piece, the orchestra moves from the first half of the 19th century to the second half of the 20th. Then, the Youth Symphony’s outstanding concertmaster, Elin Schlichting, takes the stage to perform selections from the tremendous Violin Concerto by Russian composer Julius Conus. The second half of the concert brings the Youth Symphony to new heights with Smetana’s magnificent Moldau. Close your eyes and you’ll find it hard to believe those are teenagers playing so beautifully. The concert concludes with the Rossini’s rousing La Gazza Ladra Overture, which will have the audience humming all the way home.
